Plot

Token follows Siena, a female game developer who recently graduated college. After Siena is hired at a tech start-up dominated by men, she must navigate its exclusive culture and assert her voice. Along the way, she gains the support of her manager, finds solidarity with a female coworker, and, with their help, creates a new supportive space for women in tech culture.

Background

Although the plot of Token is fictional, it conveys aspects of the stories we often heard from actual womxn in tech. Token tells a positive story about the tenacity, resilience, and success achieved by a female engineer in an unsupportive environment. By highlighting the barriers that Siena overcomes, we emphasize her strength and point out how welcome allies would have been in aiding her journey.
